Algerian criminal record: apostille and translation

The right criminal record depends on your Belgian application. Before translating, check the issuer, required date and apostille procedure for Algerian judicial documents.

Understand the process

The Algerian judicial route

Algeria’s Ministry of Justice lists criminal records among the documents eligible for an apostille since 9 July 2026. Use that route for the record, then check Belgium’s requirements for its content separately.

State the exact purpose. Do not reuse a checklist for a different procedure: the required date, country and format may differ. Keep the official instructions with the record. If unsure which record is needed, ask the receiving service before paying for translation.

Prepare a usable translation

Supply every page, readable seals and the apostille if requested. Flag differences in name or transliteration from the passport: the translator needs to see them and cannot correct the issuing record. Have the recipient confirm the target language and translation scope.

Old criminal record: is a new translation enough? #

Translation reproduces the record supplied; it does not change its issue date or scope. Algeria’s Ministry of Justice describes the apostille route, while the Belgian service specifies the records needed for your application.

Preparation advice from CertiDocs #

Fictional example: a record obtained for an earlier visa is reused months later for a work application. First ask whether it is still accepted. If a new original is required, check its apostille and translation pages too; do not pay simply to change the translation date.

  • Keep written instructions on the required date and format.
  • Compare names with the passport without altering the record yourself.

Frequently asked questions

+Must the record always be translated into French?
No. Start with the language of the issued record and the language accepted for your Belgian application. A Dutch-speaking service may require another language.
+Can I send only the first page?
For the quote, provide the complete record, including the reverse and attachments. The translation scope can then be agreed without missing an important annotation.
