CertiDocsThe practical guide

Belgian student blocked account: amount and certificate

The amount paid, the certificate issued and its language are three separate checks. Prepare the required evidence before your visa appointment.

Understand the process

What amount applies in 2026–2027?

Link to this section

The Immigration Office lists a minimum of €1,062 net per month for 2026–2027. Under its blocked-account evidence route, twelve months total €12,744. This covers subsistence; it does not guarantee a visa.

Transfer receipt or certificate?

For its students, ULB issues the certificate after receiving funds and required documents. A transfer receipt alone does not trigger issuance. Check your own institution’s procedure.

Blocked account, scholarship or Annex 32?

Link to this section

A blocked account is not the only evidence route. The Office also lists qualifying scholarship or loan certificates and an Annex 32 undertaking. Have your chosen route and supporting records checked; do not assume an ordinary balance statement is equivalent.

Which records should you send for translation?

Gather the final certificate, attachments and written consular instructions. Identify records already in an accepted language. For the others, specify the applicant’s name, target language and required format. If a certificate needs correction, obtain the corrected version from its issuer first.

Preparation advice from CertiDocs #

Fictional example: the transfer appears in your banking app, but the expected certificate has not arrived. Ask the issuer about its progress and prepare the other records. Translate the final version after checking your name and the period covered.

  • Keep the consular instruction with each record.
  • List separately the records already in an accepted language.

Frequently asked questions

+Does the blocked account pay my tuition?
The minimum shown here is subsistence evidence. Ask the institution for a written breakdown of tuition and account charges so you can keep the items separate.
+Must I translate my certificate into English?
Do not choose a language by default. Send the recipient a sample or the issued record and ask which version is accepted before ordering.
