Belgian healthcare visa: which B2 or C1 language proof?
A diploma translation makes its contents readable. Language evidence demonstrates your own proficiency. Prepare these two items separately for your professional application.
Understand the processWhich level applies to your profession?
Link to this sectionArticle 11 of the Act of 22 April 2019 distinguishes four levels according to the qualification required in Belgium. Confirm the category for the title you intend to practise under.
- Master: C1, with B2 for writing.
- Bachelor: B2.
- Below bachelor level: B1, except the A2 category below.
- Care assistant and non-emergency patient transport ambulance worker: A2.
Education diploma or language certificate?
Link to this sectionThe Act provides, among other evidence, for a secondary, higher or university diploma from a French-, Dutch- or German-language institution, or a certificate at the required level. For language certificates, the Act sets a maximum age of four years at application; the FPS describes a certificate less than four years old. Check the date before filing.
Is a course attendance certificate enough?
Link to this sectionThe FPS requires assessment of reading, listening, writing and speaking, passed at the required level. Course attendance or an unsupervised online test is insufficient. Ask the test provider how the four results and the candidate’s identity appear on the certificate.
Which records need translation?
Link to this sectionKeep the professional diploma, attachments, language evidence and good-standing certificates in separate files. Ask the responsible service which languages are accepted. Have the issuer correct any wrong identity or date before translation. Translation does not turn attendance into an examination pass.
Check your evidence before translation #
Choose accepted evidence for your professional category. The certificate must show the required level and meet the date condition.
Preparation advice from CertiDocs #
Fictional example: you are preparing a doctor’s application with a C1 course attendance certificate. Before ordering translation, you request an official examination results record. You then check the four skills, your name and the document date. The quote covers the evidence relevant to the application.
